40 years of Service
Today, the whole team at Centered wants to recognize and celebrate Dr. Tim Cummings, MD, as he begins a well-deserved retirement after 40 years in medicine in the Roswell, Georgia area.
Dr. Cummings has dedicated four decades of his life to caring for others, making a difference not only through his medical expertise but through the compassion, attention, and commitment he has brought to his patients. A career like his represents something truly meaningful: a lifetime spent serving others and making a lasting impact on the people and community around him.
Background
Dr. Cummings earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University on a full academic scholarship, then completed his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1986. He completed both his internship and residency at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, earning the Thomas J. Watts Award for Outstanding Resident in 1987. He holds board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Top Tier Practitioner for Centered
His accolades include recognition as one of “America’s Top Physicians” every year since 2003 and the Patients’ Choice Award every year since 2008. Beyond clinical work, Dr. Cummings serves on the MD VIP Foundation Board and has directed medical missions to Bolivia since 2014. He has supervised HOPE Health Corps field teams across South Africa, Jamaica, Cambodia, and West Africa. An avid tennis player, he claimed the League Tennis City Championship in Men’s Doubles in 2018 and the Peach Tennis Championship in 2016.
Centered’s Medical Director
At Centered Recovery Programs, we have been fortunate to have Dr. Cummings as our Medical Director since our opening in August of 2017. His dedication to thoughtful, patient-centered care reflects the values we strive to uphold every day. His calm leadership and fun sense of humor made our admissions and medical department run smoothly and efficiently. We are deeply grateful for the knowledge, guidance, and experience he has shared with our team and for the important role he has played in supporting the care we provide.
Announcing Our New Medical Director
We are also grateful that his legacy will continue through Dr. Jeffrey Obiora, who had the privilege of learning from Dr. Cummings as a mentor and now steps into this next chapter as his successor. Dr. Obiora’s reflections on Dr. Cummings speak to the kind of physician he is: someone who demonstrates that medicine can be practiced with genuine care, intention, and a lasting sense of purpose.
“Dr. Cummings, thank you for 40 years of service, for the lives you have touched, and for the example you have set for the physicians and colleagues who follow in your footsteps. Your influence extends far beyond the years you have practiced medicine, and we hope this next chapter brings you the same care, fulfillment, and joy that you have given to so many others.
Congratulations on your retirement. It has been an honor to work alongside you, and we wish you all the best in this well-earned new season of life.”
Reed, Krista, and the rest of the Centered Team wish Dr. Cummings all the best in his retirement with more time to spend with family, friends, and possibly even more tennis trophies!
With sincere gratitude and respect,
